BOSTON (WWLP) – The Trump Administration is ending SNAP benefits for the 1.1 million Bay Staters who rely on them at the end of the week. Attorney generals across the country say that’s illegal.
Attorney General Andrea Campbell joined over 100 advocates on the State House steps on Tuesday, calling on the federal government to reinstate benefits.
Local organizations also showed up for Tuesday’s protest, fighting against the pervasive stereotype that those who use SNAP benefits do not work. These benefits primarily help working families and their children, disabled people, and the elderly.
“SNAP is not a line item. Access to SNAP is a baby who gains weight. It’s a parent who has the energy to work for their family and bond with that child,” said Dr. Diana Becker Cutts, the co-lead principal investigator for Children’s HealthWatch.
