This week, the Senate Appropriations Committee will decide whether to allow special interests — rather than science — to determine which foods can be provided through the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC). Children’s HealthWatch submitted a letter to USDA Secretary Vilsack, encouraging him to stand behind the scientific process of determining authorized foods for WIC and continue to exclude fresh white potatoes, as recommended by the Institute of Medicine (IOM).
