Food Insecurity Prompts AR Children’s Hospital Free Lunch Program
Since 2008 when the recession hit, the number of hungry children certain hasn’t gone down, according to Arkansas Children’s Hospital (ACH). Statistics also show that children in food insecure families are 19 percent more likely to be hospitalized, not including at birth. They were 45 percent more likely to be in fair or poor health, and 31 percent more likely to be at risk of developmental delays.
Because of those startling numbers ACH is going beyond doctors orders for the regular checkup. Now they are prescribing the right remedy for a new vital sign, food insecurity.
