Subsidized Housing and Children’s Nutritional Status: Data from a Multisite Surveillance Study

This article examines the relationship between receiving housing subsidies and nutritional health status among young children in low-income families, especially those that are food insecure.  In a sample of 11,723 low-income renter families; children of the food-insecure families not receiving housing subsidies had lower weight for age compared with children of food insecure families receiving housing subsidies.  In a time of increasing economic hardship and food insecurity for American families, decreases in housing subsidies may further compromise the nutritional status of low-income children.
