CHW published a new policy brief on the impact of housing instability on Boston’s children.
Safe, Stable Homes Mean Healthier Children and Families for Massachusetts
Children’s HealthWatch analyzed surveys from 6,000 young Boston children and their caregivers collected between 2005 and 2011 at Boston Medical Center. We found that only 43% of families were housing secure. Housing insecurity is a known health risk for young children. Compared to children in securely housed families, children in housing insecure families are far more likely to be food insecure, in fair or poor health, to have been hospitalized, and to experience developmental delays.
