Hunger and Health: Connecting Patients to Food Assistance
On June 23, 2015, Children’s HealthWatch founder and Principal Investigator, Dr. Deborah Frank presented on a webinar about why doctors care about hunger and the Hunger Vital Sign™, an easy two-question screener validated by Children’s HealthWatch.
As the concept of food as medicine gains popularity, many have asked: How can anti-hunger organizations and the medical profession coordinate to improve the nutrition and health outcomes of low-income children, seniors, and families?
This webinar featured presentations on the benefits of screening for food insecurity in health settings, as well as lessons learned on how to best connect patients to nutrition assistance resources. Presentations featured medical professionals and anti-hunger advocates who are currently partnering to identify patients struggling with food insecurity, and then connect them to the nutrition assistance they need.
By listening to this webinar, you will learn why partnerships between health care providers and anti-hunger organizations are so promising and important, how patients can be systematically connected to nutrition assistance, and what has made this referral process work well in different communities around the nation.
